Who Can Apply for Discounted Scottish Youth Railcard Travel with a Young Scot Card?
The Young Scot National Entitlement Card is free to everyone aged 11-25 living in Scotland.
To get travel discounts of up to 50% OFF train travel and 1/3 OFF bus travel within Scotland you’ll need to be between 16-18 years old or a full-time volunteer under 26 years old.
If you’re aged 16-25, you’re also eligible for discounts on train travel for the rest of Britain using a 16-25 Railcard. Older than 25? Check out the new way to save on rail tickets in Britain with a 26-30 Railcard.
How Much Money Do I Get off Train Travel with a Young Scot Card?
With a Young Scot Railcard, you will get train discounts of:
- 50% OFF all weekly or monthly tickets
- 1/3 OFF most single or return rail fares
- 1/3 OFF most advance purchases.
For example, if you were planning a journey from Glasgow to Edinburgh to explore Edinburgh Castle, take a walk around the shops and visit Edinburgh zoo it could cost you up to £27.20 just for train travel. However, if you booked in advance with your Young Scot Card, you could SAVE a handy £16.00.

What Geographic Area Does the Young Scot Card Cover?
The Young Scot card gives discounts on train journeys that begin and ends in Scotland.
The Young Scot train discount is valid on ScotRail, GNER, Virgin Trains, Cross Country and First Transpennine services where the entirety of the journey is within Scotland.
Train Travel in Britain for 16-25-Year-Olds
If you’re going further afield, a 16-25 Railcard could be a better option. It includes all of Britain and gives you a third off train travel.

When Can I Use the Young Scot Card?

Restrictions
If you’re travelling before 10.00 Monday-Friday (excluding July and August), you’ll need to spend at least £12 to receive a discount on your ticket. These restrictions don’t apply if you’re buying a season ticket.

Where Can I Get a Young Scot Card?
In-person
If you’re in school and want to get a Young Scot Card, we recommend that you contact your school office. They’ll be able to arrange a new card for you.
Online
Not in school? You’ll need to go to the Young Scot website, select the area you live in Scotland and fill in an online application form, print it out and take it to a validation point with your ID to prove you qualify for a Young Scot Card.
Over the Phone

Full-Time Volunteers
If you’re a full-time volunteer under the age of 26, you will need to contact Transport Scotland on 0800 028 1414 for guidance on accessing the scheme.
I’ve Lost My Young Scot Card. How Can I Get a Replacement?
If you have lost your Young Scot Card or need a replacement, you’ll need to call your local Young Scot office. Get the local number from the Young Scot Card website.
